Just One Quilt: Colette’s Story

Watch Colette’s Story here and please share too!

Colette has many talents, including photography and I love that this quilt came from a beautiful moment captured on a camera and printed onto cotton. The excitement of becoming a parent for the first time recorded in a special heirloom.

Other prints we chose for her turquoise, grey and blue theme included cycle tracks (a nod to her husband James’s hobby) and a map of the world. Colette embroidered significant dates from her family life on the white panels, and plans to add more in the years to come.

The brick style layout of the quilt meant that it was simple to construct (she had baby Jackson at the time and her daughter Hannah on the way). I believe that often simple can be best to allow the fabrics to shine.

Re-visiting this quilt after a few years made me happy – it plays a central part in the family’s life and is well loved.

If you were going to make Just One Quilt in your lifetime this project will hopefully inspire you to think outside the box and maybe include a personal touch like the photograph here at its heart.
